Thoroughly Dismayed...

I am reading the paper today, and see that Landon Donovan will return to the Galaxy this week, two days after his loan to Bayern Munich expires. He “expressed interest in staying” though he was used sparingly. Our “best” player signed for arguably one of the best clubs in all Europe, and he was “used sparingly and sent home.”

Yet we still have an over 40 goal keeper leading Villa to a European spot (Friedel), our #1 keeper leading a team to Europe (Howard), a midfielder (Dempsey) supporting a renaissance at Fulham (they are top 10 right now), and on and on and on…

Oh, and if I am misinformed< we missed the opportunity to send Jozy to Europe for serious cash.

WTF is up with US Soccer, MLS and the lot?

  1. I am dismayed at the fact that Landon Donovan and Demarcus Beasley are not better today then they were in Korea and Japan.

Landon was open about wanting to be the poster boy of MLS, wanting to move back to LA to be close to his family and his girlfriend (now wife). He went on and on about how depressing Germany was and how it is important for the best US players to stay home and build MLS as a world class league. In all honestly, I've always viewed this as a cop out. I think Landon cared about celebrity more than actually developing into a world class soccer player. Leaving in Europe is yard, as an American he would have had to work harder than he ever had in his life, but little silver spooner who never had to work for anything figured he'd rather be where it was safe. So he stayed and never improved, he is the same player he has always been and instead of turning into a leader and a standout like Reyna after he went to Rangers and then Man City, he will hang his hat on the MLS Cups he has won and the fact that he played in three World Cups.
